What is Sports Massage?
Sports massage is a clinical massage which focuses on improving muscle, joint, tendon and ligament health in rehabilitation and prevention of injury. A qualified sports massage therapist will use their hands, fingers, thumbs, fists, forearms and elbows with slow and deliberate strokes to treat tight areas and respond to how the muscles react.

Sports massage utilises a variety of techniques depending on your needs and objectives, including: remedial massage; myofascial trigger point therapy; lymphatic drainage; deep tissue techniques (targeting deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to release chronic muscle tension); stretching (both passive and active stretching to improve flexibility and range of motion); and, frictions to targeted problem areas (applied to the muscle fibres to break down scar tissue and promote optimal healing).

Why should you get a Sports Massage?
There are many clinically reported benefits of Sports Massage, not limited to:
Improved Circulation: Enhancing blood flow, helping to supply muscles with nutrients and oxygen while removing waste products.
Reduced Muscle Tension: Alleviating stiffness and muscle tension or 'knots'.
Improved Sleep Quality: Increasing duration of deep sleep, decreasing sleep disturbances, and improving overall sleep patterns through: relaxation and reduced muscular tension promoting the release of endorphins, reduced stress and boosting your mood, lowering levels of stress hormones such as cortisol, while increasing the production of serotonin and dopamine; and, reduced pain and discomfort in your muscles and joints, reducing disturbances and achieving a more restful sleep.
Injury Prevention: Helping identify and correct potential muscle imbalances before they lead to injury.
Enhanced Flexibility: Keeping muscles supple and joints flexible, which is crucial for performance.
Quicker Recovery: Speeding up recovery from exertion and injury.

When should you book your Sports Massage?
We recommend you stay ahead of any aches and pains with a sports massage every 2-6 weeks, depending on your needs.
We recognise that that pain and injury can be both frustrating and restricting, and that injury can impact your mental health as well as your physical well-being. Scheduling ahead, even a 30-minute massage, can help to prevent potential pain and injury interfering with your life.
Pre-Event Preparation: Helping to warm up the muscles before a sports event.
Post-Event Recovery: Assisting with reducing muscle tension and soreness, particularly after intense physical activity.
Maintenance for Everyday Life and during Training: Regular sessions aimed at maintaining optimal muscle condition and helping to prevent injuries.
Injury Recovery: Playing a major role in injury recovery by reducing pain, muscles stiffness and promoting blood flow to assist in healing and recovery.

Pre-treatment questionnaire
Please note that patients are required to complete a pre-treatment questionnaire at the beginning of each appointment.
There are some conditions for which you may be advised to consult with your GP/medical practitioner ahead of receiving massage treatment. The questionnaire is to ensure that Sports Massage Therapy is an appropriate treatment at the time, and obtain patient consent to proceed with the treatment.
A preview of the questionnaire can be viewed via the link below, or requested by emailing us: katersportstherapy@gmail.com
